To : The Bloc 8406 in Viet Nam

18th January 2007

Dear Sirs,

I hope that all is well and that the development of Bloc 8406 and Vietnam’s democracy movement in general continues to progress in this year as it did in the last. I write with warm regards to you all, and I would like to make a proposal about something I strongly suspect will interest you.

As you may know I am Southeast Asia director of The Henry Jackson Society. The HJS is a think tank and an official charity for democratic geopolitics in this century, in particular to direct British and European foreign policy towards the achievement of this aim. The Society was established by academics and postgraduates in Cambridge two years ago, and since then has gained a great deal of attention for its work. Recently, three of our Organising Committee visited 10 Downing Street for discussions with the Prime Minister’s foreign policy advisors.

At the HJS we look at a range of issues of geo-strategic relevance for the spread of democracy. If it is of interest to you, you may wish to have a look at our website, our Statement of Principles, and our International Patrons. Please see: http://www.henryjacksonsociety.org

As leading members and co-founders of Bloc 8406, we would like to invite one of you to be an International Patron of The Henry Jackson Society. We all feel that your brave work for democracy in Vietnam is a superb example of the values for which the Society stands. Furthermore, your particular struggle against dictatorship in your own homeland is an important example of the universality of democracy for all humankind.

As we wish to maintain a broad network of International Patrons we will only be able to take the name of one of you, in order that our attentions remain spread country to country. We also encourage you to look carefully at our principles and the work that has appeared thus far on our website, to ensure that association would be suitable for your work. We hope that one of you would like to be a Patron and we would be honoured if you would join us.

If you wish to have a browse of our website in your own time, the Organising Committee and I would be grateful to hear your views. Many thanks.

Yours ever,

Radomir Tylecote
